Held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month in a London pub. Mostly for members of ZZ9, but other fans & friends also turn up, from about 6.30 pm. This is where you get the chance, in real life, to meet some of the people you see on the pages of MH. Sometimes, we even get surprise visitors at the ZZ9 pub meetings such as radio cast members. If you've never been before, don't be afraid to email committee members to let them know you're coming and you desire the warmest welcome. If we aren't expecting you, we can't look out for you to say "Hi!"
Meetings: ONLY July 16th 2008 - The George Inn
Go to the George Inn, Borough High Street, SE1 1NH [map]. From London Bridge Station/s walk westwards out onto the main road leading to London Bridge itself, but turn left (south) away from the river and along Borough High St. Walk past St Thomas St, then go another 200 metres, ignoring Kings Head Yard and White Hart Yard. The pub entrance is a passage into a large courtyard on your left. The George was rebuilt in 1676, and is best described as one of London's most amazing pubs. Ask for the Old Bar, which retains some even earlier features. Ales: Greene King (various) plus at least one Guest.
We are leaving the George shortly, as the courtyard tends to be too crammed with people in the summer, and the Old Bar is stunningly cold in the winter. The National Trust like it that way, for authenticity. Remember, the rebuilt George was nearly 200 years old when Dickens drank there...
Meetings: for Aug 20th, Sep 17th, Oct 15th, Nov 19th, Dec 17th 2008 - The Black Horse
This is barely spitting distance from Oxford St, i.e. so central that no-one can possibly complain (unless they happen to live in Wales). From Tottenham Court Rd tube, turn left (Westwards) along Oxford St, take the second right, and you're there. Incidentally, the first right is Hanway Street, where at number 44 you can find Bradley's Bar for a pre-meeting tipple. The last time Reg was there, he reckons Bradley's was a typical German - Spanish - Irish - Thai tapas boozer, with wonky stairs and the narrowest toilet doors in the capital. But we're not meeting there, because it's too small and mad. Around the corner, the Black Horse is now an M&B Nicholson's pub, hence a decent range of food and drinks in the evening. It may be busy early in the evening, but will thin out later as the suits go home. See you there!
