Pan Macmillan Reissues.
The first five books of the trilogy are being reissued with new covers (the first with stickers so that you can have a DIY cover). They have forewords from: Russell T. Davies, Terry Jones, Simon Brett, Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs.

Hitchhiker Feature and Freebee in SciFiNow #32.
Issue #32 of UK based magazine SciFiNow goes on sale with a four page feature on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the set of stickers that comes with the Pan reissue (see above) as a freebee.

Last Chance to See - TV Tie-In Book.
HarperCollins have purchased the rights to the book of the followup TV series by Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine. ISBN: 978-0007290727

Last Chance to See - TV series
Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine retrace the steps that Douglas Adams and Mark took twenty years ago when they went to look for rare animals in the 1989 radio series Last Chance to See It is being made by West Park Pictures and BBC Wales.

Wednesday 23rd
Hitchhiker Feature in SFX #188.
Features editor, Nick Setchfield, got to rummage through the Pan archives for a Hitchhiker special in the November edition of SFX, and commented "It was like handling sacred texts. With sacred Tipp-Ex marks." There is an interview with Nick about this experience in issue #114 of the ZZ9 magazine, Mostly Harmless.

Omnibus - Life, the Universe and Douglas Adams
UK digital channel BBC4 is showing the edition of the documentary series Omnibus that was fisrt shown in August 2001 as a tribute to Douglas Adams.
Note - this is a 50 minute documentary that originally had the subtitle 'The Man Who Blew Up the Earth', and can be found as an extra on the North American DVD of the TV series. It is different to the longer Rick Mueller / Joel Greengrass video-documentary which shares that name.

An Afternoon Without Ken Campbell
The Showroom Cinema in Sheffield is hosting a tribute for Ken Campbell, with the theatre critic Michael Coveney and the film-maker Sheridan Thayer. Screenings will include:
'Firework Man', the 1977 feature on Ken for the ITV arts programme 'Aquarius',
'No Problem - The Theatre of Ken Campbell', a 1981 documentary going behind the scenes of Ken's famous theatre productions of 'The Warp' and 'The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.
'Antic Visionary' - The World of Ken Campbell', Sheridan Thayer's amazing 2003 feature length profile of Ken.

Hitchcon'09
Penguin are staging a one-day convention to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first Hitchhiker book being published, and also the publication of the sixth one written by Eoin Colfer.
Hitchcon'09 is being held at the Southbank Centre, and involves a number of events - some free and some not.
11:30 Photo Call - FREE - Start the day at a photocall of the largest number of Hitchhiker's fans ever. Remember to wear your dressing gown and bring along a towel.

1 - A full panel of Hitchhiker’s experts and friends of Douglas Adams discusses the great man and his work.
13:30 Book Signing - FREE - Mega-signing of the fantastic new edition of the first five Hitchhiker's novels. We presume the books are being signed by the people who have written the new forewords, and not remotely by DNA himself.
15:00 Sessions 2 And Another Thing... & 3 Hitchhikers Live On Stage £25.00
2 - And Another Thing... Eoin Colfer, bestselling author of Artemis Fowl, gives an exclusive reading from his new Hitchhiker's novel - the sixth book in the series. Introduced by Ireland’s multi-platinum selling band The Blizzards, playing their single inspired by And Another Thing...
3 - Hitchhikers Live On Stage Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Marvin The Paranoid Android and Trillian are set to appear in person - Improbability Drive permitting - along with intergalactic plutonium rock band Disaster Area, to recreate classic moments from the saga, joined by special guests including Eoin Colfer.

Published on the 30th anniversary of the publication of the first Hitchhiker novel.
US rights have been sold to Hyperion, and the book is also being published in Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

Beyond our Ken: The Multiverse of Ken Campbell at the National Theatre
In this evening of capers, memories and divine improvisation we aim to invoke the spirit of the late, great Ken Campbell. With those he inspired we journey from Road Show days, through Illuminatus! and The Warp, to his acclaimed one-man shows and improventriloquial escapades.
Ken produced and directed two Hitchhiker stage shows - no word as yet as to whether there is any Hitchhiker content to this show.

Thursday 11th
The Eighth Douglas Adams Memorial Lecture takes place on what would have been Douglas's 56th birthday at The Royal Geographical Society, London.
The 2010 lecture is being given by the mathematician Marcus du Sautoy, and is entitled: 42: the answer to life, the universe and prime numbers.
